EC probing Rs 50 lakh cash seizure in Maharashtra

Mumbai :-Election Commission is probing an instance of cash seizure of Rs 50 lakh in Mumbai recently from a vehicle belonging to a candidate of a major political party.Sources said the EC has sought a detailed report into the case from Maharashtra poll authorities after a preliminary dossier sent by the Election Expenditure Observer of a constituency in Mumbai stated that surveillance teams recovered Rs 50 lakh from a vehicle.Report said the cash was withdrawn on the same day of the seizure from a cooperative bank branch in Mumbai with a certificate that it was to be used for expenses of election purpose by party.

Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati idol holds a special place for the devotees in Mumbai

Mumbai:- Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati idol holds a special place for the devotees in Mumbai as they welcome the elephant God on Ganesh Chaturti which is celebrated across Maharashtra and the world. The 11-day Ganpati festival begins from August 29, 2014 this year and will end on Annant Chaturdashi with the immersion of the idols. Lalbaugcha Raja turns 80 this year.

The idol which is known as Lalbaugcha Raja especially due to the name of the place is also known as Sarvajanik Ganpati which means it is for the masses. Raja is also known as ”one who fulfills wishes” hence some call it Navsacha Ganpati.

Devotees wait in queues for hours together and sometimes overnight to get a glimpse of the Raja and do the mukh darshan. Lalbaugcha Raja is not a shrine but a community organised festival. Huge crowds come to visit Lord Ganesha and at times it takes over 20 hours to reach the idol. Everyone from a common Mumbaikar to Bollywood superstars pay their obeisance and seek blessings from the Raja. The organisers – Lalbaug Sarvajanik Ganeshostav Mandal have started a Mukh Darshan Ceremony (Lalbaugcha Raja’s first look) a few days prior to the main event.

International Renowned Yoga Guru BKS Iyengar Dies

Pune:- BKS Iyengar, the Indian yoga teach who founded one of the world’s most popular yoga styles, has died in India city of Pune. He was 95. Mr Iyengar was admitted to hospital last week and died early on Wednesday following kidney problems.
Mr Iyengar was credited with his own brand of yoga, and taught author Aldous Huxley and violinist Yehudi Menuhin, among other celebrities.Iyengar yoga is now taught in more than 70 countries and the guru’s books have been translated into 13 languages.One of yoga’s finest teachers, Mr Iyengar practised what he called an “art and science” for more than eight decades and ran one of India’s top yoga schools in Pune. Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja (BKS) Iyengar in Bellur in the southwestern state of Karnataka in 1918 and in 2004, was named one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time Magazine. He was the 11th of 13 children and multiple childhood illnesses led him to begin yoga when he was 16. His teacher was his brother-in-law and the man dubbed the father of modern yoga, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. At 18 he began to teach yoga and in the subsequent decades developed his personal philosophy, which became Iyengar yoga.
He counted author Aldous Huxley, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and assorted Hollywood actors among his disciples and even taught the Queen Mother of Belgium to do a headstand when she was 80.

PM to Launch Various Roads and Ports Projects in Maharashtra on 16th August

New Delhi:-Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi who will be on a day-long visit to Maharashtra tomorrow will launch various Roads and Ports projects.These include Foundation laying of four laning for the Solapur-Maharashtra/Karnataka border section on Pune-Solapur stretch of National Highway-9 (NH-9.) at Solapur. The NH-9 connects the state of Maharashtra with Karnataka, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh and is taken up under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP). This is one of the major high-density traffic corridors in India connecting Northern & Western India with Southern India.

Prior to this function, upon his arrival in Mumbai, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation of a Port Connectivity Highway Project at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). This project to be completed by December 2017 will cost about 1927 Crore rupees. The Ministry of Shipping under the National Highway Development & Port Connectivity Programme will execute this Project on Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) mode through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).

Shri Narendra Modi will also lay the foundation for a Port- Based Multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at the JNPT. This is also to be developed through JNPT-SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) in 277 hectares under the engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) mode and is to be completed in three years. This is planned to be a Self-Sustainable Integrated Development Project with an investment of about 4,000 Crore rupees and an employment generating potential of about 1.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs.With a focus on collaborating with upcoming sectors of India, the SEZ will develop Free Trade Warehousing Zone for Engineering Goods Sector, Electronics and Hardware Sectors, Non- Conventional Energy Sector, Multi Services (IT and Healthcare) Sectors and Apparel and Textiles Sectors.

Shri Narendra Modi will also participate in a function to allot land to JNPT- Project Affected persons (PAPs) under the 12.5% scheme. Now this land is being allocated to those land owners of the Navi Mumbai Project from which JNPT was given land in 1980s. Land owners were given assurances at the time of land acquisition that developed land would be given to them to the extent of 12.5% of the land acquired. The Ministry of Shipping has now transferred 12.5% of the 1172 hectares of land earlier transferred for the JNPT project. This land will now be handed over to the JNPT- (PAPs) to resolve the issue to the satisfaction of all.

The Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways & Shipping, Shri Nitin Gadkari, has expedited clearance for all these these projects during a series of review meetings undertaken by him over the last couple of months.The Maharashtra Governor Shri K. Sankaranarayanan, the State Chief Minister Shri Prithviraj Chavan, the Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Shri Anant Geete, the Union Minister of State for Coal & Power Shri Piyush Goyal, Senior officials of the concerned Ministries, Members of Parliament & senior politicians from the state are expected to attend the functions in Mumbai & Sholapur.
